What You'll Do:

The Default Prevention Manager leads strategic initiatives to promote responsible borrowing and improve student loan repayment options. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to student loan servicing and default prevention. This position is accountable for the annual default rate and collaborates across departments to design and implement data-driven strategies that reduce default rates and support borrower success.


Essential Responsibilities:

 

  • Financial Literacy Program Oversight: 
    Develop, implement and manage a robust financial literacy program that empowers students with the knowledge and tools to make informed financial decisions.
  • Vendor Relations:
    Build and maintain strong relationships with federal loan servicers to advocate for student needs and resolve borrower issues efficiently.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Oversight:
    Ensure departmental operations comply with all federal and state regulations related to student loans and default management. Monitor changes and proactively adjust processes to maintain compliance.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
    Serve as the primary liaison between Financial Aid, Student Loan Management, Academics, Student Services, and Operations to coordinate outreach and provide students with a holistic understanding of their repayment options.
  • Customer Service Excellence:
    Champion a culture of high-quality service. Ensure borrower interactions are handled with empathy, accuracy, and professionalism. Provide direct outreach to students to provide guidance to promote financial wellness and responsible borrowing practices.
  • Data Monitoring & Reporting:
    Monitor loan performance data to identify trends and risks. Prepare reports and presentations for leadership on key metrics and program effectiveness.

What We Need From You:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in student loan servicing, default prevention, or financial aid in a higher education setting.
  • Strong understanding of federal student loan programs and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive measurable results.

 

Nice to have:  

  • Previous people leadership experience
  • Master’s degree in business, Finance or related field
